Iriska bönder kräver mer arkeologi
« skrivet: juli 12, 2013, 01:08 »
Nu lägger bönder och andra press på iriska politiker för att ge mer tid och stöd åt landets arkeologer. Orsaken är att irisk arkeologi genom åren gett dom ett allt bättre hum om vad och vem deras förfäder varit - och vem do själva är:

Digging deeper into archaeological heritage

The recent public drive to inform politicians of the desire for the archaeology of Drumclay Crannóg in Fermanagh to be properly investigated, despite road building pressures, demonstrates our great interest in our local archaeology.

This crannóg gives a picture of life in Ireland over a millennium – from the 7th century up to the 17th century.

From this amazing site was discovered richly decorated combs, mill stones, small crucibles for metal-working, wooden gaming pieces, leather bags, fragments of cloth and part of a wooden plough. Human remains were also uncovered.

Such sites tell us who we are and where we come from, and help us understand how our ancestors interacted with their landscape. It is only from such sites that we begin to realise that our ancestors were not uncouth, uncivilised or unhygienic. They did not just eke out a miserable existence, but worked effectively with the landscape and harnessed it to lead colourful, eventful and refined lives.

Archaeology remains a rich area of research today and there is much for even the amateur enthusiast to uncover and to add to the collective knowledge of how things were.
