I hur hög grad (och på vilka sätt) tror ni att arkeologin kommer att kunna dra nytta av denna rikstäckande laserskanning?
That depends on the point-density used. The 1-point/sqm from Gamla Uppsala where a wee bit sparse but good enough for cheap 3D effects. 12 points per square metre are nothing unusual anymore today (20 points/sqm have been reported) ... However, there will be sufficient space and need for extra-dense archaeological scans.
Anyway, it will revolutionize Swedish archaeology (
Norway is already lightyears ahead and
NIKU has one of the world's best
experts in the field). Entirely new, and so far unknown archaeological monuments
will be discovered if the data is analysed accordingly.
Airborne laserscanning (ALS) is (and has been for some years) a very hot topic in
archaeological prospection and landscape archaeology. In Sweden, which to a not insubstantial degree is covered by woodlands, ALS and related
remote sensing methods have a very large, so far untapped potential.
An important paper on ALS by the other
god and guru in the field can be found
here.
